Sports Massage Know How

If you are not injured, the best time to get a Sports Massage is 2 – 4 days prior to your event.  If you got sore from your last sports massage, play it safe, plan you massage for 4 days before your event.  Your muscles will be well-rested and recovered for your big day.

If you have a strict training regiment, try getting a massage on the last day of your hard week, or the first day or two of your lighter week.  You’ll feel that a Sports Massage will amplify your recovery and get you set-up to endure harder, longer training later in your season.

If you feel “heavy-legged”, weak, or overly fatigued and stretching and rest alone aren’t helping, try getting a Sports Massage.  Our treatment can normalize those overused muscles and aid in recovery.

Do you think you are on the verge of “tweaking” something?  Have you noticed that the pain and discomfort, while running (or biking, swimming, jumping, dancing, sitting-too-long, playing guitar) has started to come-on sooner than before?  Try a Sports Massage!  Chances are that you are over-training and not getting enough recovery.  Sports Massage can be a recovery catalyst for your training to keep those devastating injuries minimal.

Sports Massage and regular, proper stretching can be your preventative maintenance answer for your muscles and joints.  Do you brush your teeth to prevent tooth decay and tooth loss?  Do you empty the lint tray to keep your dryer operating optimally and avoid appliance fires?  Don’t you get your oil changed so that your car runs smoothly with little engine viscosity? Then surely you can understand the purpose for keeping your muscles at a nice normal resting length in order to diminish the effects of over-training on your joints!  There is no better way to do that than by implementing a stretching routine and getting an occasional Sports Massage.

If you have a chronic injury, but you still want to participate in your event and you need help getting there, we can help.  The therapists at Georgia Sports Massage are all athletes too.  We have trained for events and battled ailments along the way.  We offer expert advice whether it be how often to get treatment, what at home therapies you can do, which other Sports Medicine professional to see, or if you should put your plan on hold until you get healthy again.

What can you do to enhance the benefits of Sports Massage?  First, drink lots of water.  The massage can actually push metabolic waste products out of your scar tissues and into you blood stream.  The waste products can make you feel a little sick unless you flush them out by drinking more water than usual.  Your kidneys and liver will then take care of getting those waste products out of your body.  Second, take a hot shower or a 10-minute bath before you go to bed that night.  Third, while you are still warm from the shower or bath, do slow and easy stretches of you major muscle groups.  Breathe deeply while stretching and stay within your normal range of motion.  Then go to bed and get lots of R.E.M.s.
